Every day is a gift, a blessing.
In the wilder days of my youth I had the privilege of skiing, coaching and competing at the international level, traveling, meeting new people and places, immersing myself into lovin, livin, life. Our first team van was 300 dollars! We all put in 50 bucks, put an old tape player on the dash, and lived the ski bum, hippie life. In this now twilight season of life I think to myself “when did being a hippie, nomad, traveler, wanderer become so expensive?” Mikado was built on the premise that it doesn't have to be. And not only that but we can find some pretty cool rides for you to enjoy the journey. The idea emerged from reflecting on my early childhood years living in Japan with my family. My folks loved Japan as I did. I assimilated into the Japanese culture, spoke the language, adopted traditional practices, appreciated the lifestyle and art. But what I remember most of all was this culture of respect and beauty. Respect for elders, families and each other and this exceptional gift for being at peace, a hard work ethic, clean quiet homes and neighborhoods, and peaceful gardens. After my folks passing a few years ago, I wanted to continue that legacy of how the Japanese culture affected our family in such a peaceful and positive way. Mikado JDMC is my contribution to the memory of my parents, their love for Japan and America, their honest and successful business practices and their love and care for others. And through this reflection I began importing the Mitsubishi Delica, and discovered all kinds of different, fun, adventurous and eccentric motorcars rarely seen here in the U.S. What I discovered was that each find, each import, each project had a story. Sometimes obvious, sometimes mysterious. I want to share that with you, and offer you a ride that will be fun to drive, and practical to get you out there to the trailhead, the lake, the river. Or the soccer game, the symphony and the grocery store. Will you let me share with you what we can discover in the classic era of Japan motorcar design?
